First, sorry for the double Kirby posting. I had it cross posted from blip.tv but for some reason the process that usually take minutes took days. Since I thought it wasn't going to work I posted it myself. Hence, two postings on Kirby's tragedy. I could delete one, but he went through such trauma I decided he deserved two postings.

I think age 15 must have been the most interesting year of my life. A couple postings ago I wrote about a bracelet I was given from a boy. I remember another boy who I knew at school. I wasn't popular and did not have many friends so remember that as I tell you my story.
Alex was a year ahead of me in school. I usually ate my lunch tucked in the doorway of a classroom by myself. One day Alex walked down the hallway I was hiding in and stopped to talk. In the course of a few weeks I found out that I really liked him. He was Hispanic and as my parents can tell you I have a thing for beautiful brown skin. I don't know why. I think it's sexy....I'm as white as can be--not sexy..:)
Anyway-I started hearing rumors about Alex. Some I knew were true and some I didn't know. He had a girlfriend and they had recently broken up. That part was a well known rumor at the high school. The part I didn't know and never learned if it was true was that the reason they broke up was because she was pregnant.
Nothing scares a "good Mormon" girl more than thinking she is in 'like' with a bad boy. Well, there were other rumors such as Alex was a part of the "druggie" group. I don't know if I believe that because I don't remember ever smelling anything on him. Somehow Alex got my home phone number. I didn't give it to him, so he must have done some investigating. He started calling me at home.
My parents didn't really get mad, but I knew they weren't crazy about the fact that a boy was calling me. After all, dating wasn't allowed until 16. I could go to dances, but never felt comfortable at a dance, so I didn't go very often, and never went to a school dance.
Well, Alex called a lot and the rumors I had been hearing were bothering me. Finally during one call Alex asked if I would go to a dance with him. I told him I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16 and I couldn't dance. Of course I meant I literally did not know how to dance. He must have thought I meant I could not attend a dance.
Never heard from Alex again. But still have that desire to date and marry someone with darker skin than I. And the cute accent of someone who has learned English as a second language is way sexy. Think of the cute babies--never mind-I'm too old for that!

Kirby's Tragedy
This is a video that is probably too long and boring for you. I detest my own voice on it, but I thought I'd keep it so you could hear what was happening and how he reacted.

Kirby
Wanted a silent movie because I hate my voice, but you have to hear the words to understand his reactions.

Just a Bracelet
When I was 15 there was a boy I liked. His name was Bart. He probably wasn't as cute as I remember, but love at 15 is strange.
I met this wonder of a boy at a church youth conference. We were at a dance which took place at a college where we were staying. My teenage heart went pitter patter when I met him, danced with him, and walked with him.
He was a bit forward-wanted to kiss in the stairwell. But being the good girl that I was back then, I refused to kiss him. Of course none of the other girls believed me when I told them I didn't kiss him.
I found out he lived in the same town as my older sister whom we adopted. Of course this made visiting her more likely in the future. Lucky for me she had a baby and I went up to help her for a week. During this time she arranged to have dinner with Bart's family. Oh, save my beating heart now--. As teenage love went back then, we went for a walk, tried to get away from his younger siblings, and confessed our unrequited love for each other.
Bart would ride his bike to Becky's house and we would "babysit" Larry. Becky would conveniently have to run to the store. (For those of you who are worried, I had turned the big bad 16 by now). Bart was smooth. His teenage hormones were raging much hotter than mine-and mine were pretty raging.....Ok. Moving on,
At the end of my stay Bart gave me a bracelet. He drew a picture for me, gave me the bracelet and told me he loved me. I accepted the bracelet and went home. I don't even remember if I told my parents about the bracelet. It was probably only a $10-$20 dollar trinket, but at 16 I was enamored that he "loved" me enough to buy me a bracelet.
As the days went on and I was home, reality began to poke it's ugly head. My sister was moving. The Air Force was transferring them. I would not have a place to stay if I went up there. Practicality told me that letters weren't really going to work either. A long distance romance at 16 is a little difficult.
So-I sent the bracelet back. I wrote a note and told Bart that he needed to save the bracelet for someone who would love him for who he was.
I never saw nor heard from Bart again. I was sad, but not as heartbroken as I thought I would be. After all, it was just a bracelet.
Recently I found out my 14 year old bought a girl a bracelet. She lives in Pennsylvania, he lives in Utah. He is going to visit cousins in Pennsylvania and will get to see his "girl".
Not only did he sneak away with friends to spend his first paycheck on this bracelet, he spent over $100 on it.
What do you think? Will she think it's just a bracelet? Or-are those raging teenage hormones going to make the bracelet into something else?

It's Been a Long Time
No excuses. I just didn't feel like blogging. I haven't even read blogs that I'm following. Don't know why. Just didn't.
Today I am on day three of babysitting my little dog, Kirby. I know. I always watch him so how is this different? Well, let me tell you a story.
Once upon a time Kirby was outside on his leash going to the bathroom in his own yard. The neighbors who are very old were taking groceries into their home. They have a dog that is part Corgi and part Blue Heeler. The old guy can barely control the dog on a leash. Manny, the neighbor's dog, saw Kirby and pushed past the old guy. Manny tore across the yellowish green lawn and pushed Kirby. Kirby was a little stuck because he was on a leash and his owner (me) was trying to reach him to pick him up.
Kirby was so panicked that he broke off his leash and ran under the bushes. Smart Kirby! Kirby backed up into the bushes far enough that Manny couldn't reach him because Manny is a big, FAT, bully.
Manny finally turned to go back home. I couldn't get Kirby to come out of the bushes. So, I went to the door and opened it. Then, I called Kirby. He came running as fast as he could. He got in the house and I shut the door really fast because Manny was coming! After Manny turned to go home I went in to see if Kirby was okay. I saw blood on Kirby's leg. Not a lot, but I could tell he was hurt.
Being the good owner, I called the vet. The vet could not see him because he was in the middle of a surgery. They told me to call someone else. So, I called the place they suggested. Their doctor couldn't see Kirby because he was in surgery too. So, I called the second place our vet suggested and they got him in.
Kirby now has stitches on his back and on his upper leg, thigh area. Additionally, he had a muscle tear. When the vet opened him up to stitch the muscle she found that Manny had tore two out of three layers of muscles. She stitched them up and then stitched up where she had to cut to get through to the muscle.
Kirby now has to wear an e-collar which our other neighbor calls a "Martini cup". Kirby might wish it was a Martini cup so he could be out of it. Anyway-he runs into walls and furniture with it on because he cannot see peripherally with it on. He also puts his head down to sniff and the collar gets stuck on the carpet so I have to lift it up for him.
This dog is a very active dog. The day after surgery he wanted to chase birds across the yard. However, he is not allowed to run, go on walks, or jump. Do you know how hard it is to keep a good dog down? He is going stir crazy and so am I! Yesterday I held him in my arms and took him for a walk just so he could see other things.
Right now he is sleeping between my legs under a blanket. He goes back for a check up on Tuesday and again the following Tuesday to get the stitches out. Poor Kirby....Bad Manny....
$420 dollar vet bill with a discount because the vet felt bad for my lack of money. It was really over $600. Luckily Manny's owners paid me back for the bill. They feel so bad. Kirby got a bag of treats yesterday and I got chocolate truffles!
